The donated chair

As I continue my recovery from surgery, I have to take into consideration the fundamental need to take a decent shower. But because I can’t really put too much weight on my foot right now – and because I still have stitches and sutures that require my leg to stay dry – showering has been an adventure.

I solved the “keep the leg dry” issue by purchasing some plastic waterproof sheaths. I simply slide the sheath up my leg, and the tight opening at the top of the sheath acts as a barrier against leaks and wetness against my leg. Shower away.

But I can’t stand fully on my feet right now … so I purchased a shower chair for my bathroom. I can sit in the shower chair, lather up, shower nicely, get squeaky clean, and all is good. Clean Chuck = happy Chuck.

But when Amazon shipped the shower chair to me – which, by the way, was a quick assembly – I noticed that they shipped me a second shower chair. Hmm. I only purchased one shower chair. I only have one shower in my home.

So at that point in time, I had three options. I could either:

  • (A) assemble the second shower chair in case the first one falls apart.
  • (B) toss the second shower chair in a closet and leave it there.
  • (C) build the second shower chair, drape some cloth over it and tell everyone it’s new living room furniture.

And in the end, I went with Option (D).

And Option (D), thanks to my friend Ed who stops by regularly to check on me, was to have the second shower chair donated to someone in need. Ed brought it over to Marra’s Pharmacy in Cohoes, where he knew of an elderly person in need of such equipment.

And that’s fine by me. There’s no reason for me to have additional unnecessary furniture in the house. I’m in the process of physical recovery … not in the process of packing extra waterproof decor in the living room.
